The Circular Economy

About This Collection

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is an independent charity with the aim of inspiring a generation to re-think, re-design & build a positive future through the vision of a circular economy. Ellen MacArthur founded the Foundation to better understand how on land too we rely on finite resources in the form of materials, energy and water after her experiences as a world class sailor having sailed over 26,000 miles to become the fastest person to circumnavigate the globe single-handed.

The Circular Economy 100 is a global platform bringing together leading companies, emerging innovators and regions to accelerate the transition to a circular economy over a 1000-day (3 year) period. The Annual Summit was held Wednesday 19 June 2013.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WWF are calling for a legally-binding UN treaty that addresses the entire plastics lifecycle. More than 2 million people around the world, +700 civil society groups, +70 global companies, and more than ¾ of UN member countries back this call. There’s no time to waste. Every day, the plastic pollution crisis gets worse, and it doesn’t care about borders. Countries and organisations can’t fix the problem on their own through voluntary agreements and existing measures. It is a global challenge that needs a coordinated and globally aligned response. In February, world leaders have a once in a lifetime opportunity at the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) to begin negotiations for a treaty on plastic pollution. We need our governments to act now to fix plastic pollution for good, before it’s too late.
